What to expect

Learn more about what our classes are like, and what you should know before hand.

Q: I'm out of shape. Will I embarrass myself? Will I die?
A: No & no! The great thing about barre is that everyone can do the moves, no matter your age or condition. Even pregnant women can do barre up until labor! We provide modifications to make each exercise easier or more advanced, so you can find your own challenge point. Also- this is a no-judgement-zone. We only compete with ourselves, & support everyone else in the room. Strong women lift each other up with support & encouragement and that's what we strive for. We all understand that everyone starts somewhere! It will be fun & it will be challenging. But if you stick with is you will see the incredible things you can do when you set your mind to it.

Q: I don't have dance experience. Is this going to be awkward?
A: No experience necessary! This definitely is not a dance class. It tends to be more fitness-like than most people expect. You don't need to be super-coordinated or graceful. No reason to be intimidated :)

Q: What is the parking situation?
A: There is plenty of free parking. The small plaza we are in has a parking lot both in front and behind the building- super convenient!

Q: What should I bring?
A: You don't need anything besides workout clothes & your beautiful self. You can bring a water bottle & sticky socks if you have them, and if not, we sell both of those here in the studio.

Q: What are these Sticky Socks?
A: We don't workout in shoes. You can go barefoot (don't worry- our cork floors are antimicrobial!), but we suggest you wear sticky socks for maximum comfort. They are super cute & comfy, and have a rubber tracking on the bottom to keep your feet from slipping. Check them out in the retail section of the studio. We're obsessed.

Q: Do you have showers?
A: We do not have showers, but we have a pretty awesome locker room. There is a bathroom, changing rooms, lockers with locks provided, and a grooming station complete with any rushed sweaty girl's dream of products: dry shampoo, aerosol deodorant, wipes, lotions, sprays, etc. It'll get you through the rest of your day! And who are we kidding, you don't want to, or have time for a shower anyways ;)

Q: What are the classes like?
A: They are set to fun upbeat music and are generally a mix of Pilates, weight & resistance training, cardio, ballet, yoga, and more. Each class touches on every major muscle group of the body, so it's a full body workout each time. They use the ballet barre, weights, therabands, and small Pilates balls. We combine tiny controlled movements, called isometrics, with full range of motion exercises. You will practice control and stability each class. You can read more about it in our 'Technique' page. To keep your workouts interesting and evolving, we offer different barre classes, specified on the schedule, to keep you from plateauing mentally or physically. Each instructor has a different fitness background and is constantly learning new things as new research and studies are released, so she incorporates that into her class, allowing you to learn as much as possible while you benefit from her background of practice. You will get the benefits of Pilates, yoga, dance, cardio, weight training, etc. for a more well-rounded workout program. For this reason, we encourage you to mix and match the classes you attend!

Q: How many classes should I aim for per week?
A: It depends on your fitness level and any injuries/ conditions you may have. For most people, 4-7 classes per week would be ideal—but something is better than nothing. As little as 2-3 classes per week would still be beneficial. Because it's a low-impact exercise and safe, it is hard to over-train in barre. The more classes you attend, the faster you'll see the results. We'd be happy to speak with you about your goals and lifestyle to help you determine how many times per week you should be coming.

Q: What results should I expect?
A: You will have improved posture. A few clients have said they feel taller, and one even told us that the doctor measured her taller! Don't get us wrong, we're not claiming you'll become taller- but you may feel taller as a result of better posture. You will have sculpted, toned muscles, but not become bulky. The isometric movements we use are strengthening the smallest muscle fiber type in size (slow twitch muscles), so if you are prone to bulking up with muscle, that's not going to be an issue here. They will be nice and lean. You will raise your metabolism, which will help with weight loss if that's your goal. You will gain amazing core strength- not only getting you washboard abs, but also decreasing back pain and other bad alignment/ posture- induced aches. You will become more flexible, which will also allow you to have better posture, allow you to dig deeper into each exercise and get more out of it, avoid injuries, and improve overall muscle & joint health. And last but not least, there are lots of mental benefits you'll find as well. You will increase mental sharpness, self-confidence, and mind-body coordination. You'll build a mental strength along with the physical. Not to mention, you will be happier in general. In the words of Elle Woods, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don't kill their husbands." Thanks Elle!
