About the Open Barre Method
Hi Everyone, Andrea here! I designed this program to give you a well-rounded fitness regimen that will give you more strength, endurance, and general energy, as well as a better mind-body connection and body composition, but without the wear and tear on your joints. I base all of my programming around science and biomechanics in particular to make sure that we are working smarter and not harder so that you can get the results you want in less time and with minimal risk, which is something I find hugely lacking in the fitness industry. My take on fitness is that it should be effective and challenging on the muscles, but gentle on the joints and make you feel better, not break you down. If you were to ask me what modality of fitness we do, I’d say it’s a fusion of barre, Pilates, and resistance training, with a tiny bit of yoga and cardio sprinkled in! I love combining the most effective elements of each modality to create the Open Barre way!
My Background
I grew up dancing, got my B.S. in anatomy/ physiology (pre-physical therapy), and upon graduating, I fell in love with barre classes so much so that I got certified to teach and opened up my own fitness studio in Walnut Creek, CA in 2015. That’s when Open Barre Fitness was born! Throughout the next 7 amazing years I taught close to 4,000 classes, completed 4 barre and fitness certification courses (including earning a 200-hour biomechanics and strength training certification by Evlo Fitness, by far my favorite one), did tons of independent study (including working with a Physical Therapist to do a deep dive in prenatal and postpartum fitness), trained and managed our talented staff, and learned so much first hand through working with people of all ages, fitness levels, body types, and those with almost any kind of injury you can imagine. It was incredibly rewarding to watch the transformation of so many people and to fine tune and tweak the methods to continually improve the results and the general experience. In 2021 I moved across the country to Franklin, TN with my husband, toddler, and dog. We then closed the studio doors in August 2022 to go fully virtual… A BIG and bitter-sweet change! Now, I’m so excited to be able to share these classes with a wider demographic because they truly are life changing and I’ve seen how they can help anyone improve their mental & physical health & wellbeing.
